Meet Sen Bent, Mother Of Bbn Star Who Chaired The Nigerian Senate Committee On Environment

Is no longer news that the mother of one Big Brother Naija Season 6 Shine Ya Eye housemate was a Nigerian senator. Jackie Bent’s mother, Senator Grace Folashade Bent, is among female Nigerian politicians that had served the country in their capacities.

The Adamawa-born politician and member of The All progressive congress, APC, was born on 25 October, 1960. 

During her early age, she went to Ilesa Grammar School and graduated in 1978. She became a students' Union activist at the University of Calabar, where she received a bachelor degree in English and Literary Studies in 1998 and later obtained MSc in political science from the same university. In 2003, she also obtained MSc in international relations and later gained a doctorate degree in public Administration from Indiana State University, United States.  

After her studies, she returned to Nigeria and joined politics. She became the PA to the former national chairman of the PDP, Audu Ogbeh. 

In 2007, during the regime of former President Yar'Adua, Senator Folashade was elected as a Nigerian lawmaker under the People's Democratic Party platform to represent the good people of Adamawa South constituency of Adamawa State.

During her period as a Nigerian Senator, Jackie B's mother chaired the Nigerian Senate Committee on Environment and she occupied the position for straight four years.

While chairing the Nigerian Senate Committee on Environment, Senator Bent was involved in controversy over an extension of permission for gas flaring granted to oil companies by president Umaru Yar'Adua without consultation with the Senate.

Also in 2009, she worked against the establishment of a desert control commission, while stating that the establishment would clone the work of the national committee on ecological problems.

She helped the Nigeria government to achieve a lot of things while working as the chairperson of the Nigerian Senate Committee on Environment.
